the raven

Posted by e. (New York, NY, United States) on 14 May 2008 in Animal & Insect and Portfolio.

And the raven, never flitting, still is sitting, still is sitting
On the pallid bust of Pallas just above my chamber door;
And his eyes have all the seeming of a demon's that is dreaming,
And the lamp-light o'er him streaming throws his shadow on the floor;
And my soul from out that shadow that lies floating on the floor
Shall be lifted - nevermore!

- Edgar Allen Poe

What a fascinating poem! Typical of Poe, you feel something ominous, but you can't tell at once how and what. It has to do with death which still has some living in it. The same with your photographed raven: it's a picture, but still it has something living... Very, very smart!

Nice b/w shot, it's not easy to get details of a black bird but you caught some with the back lighting.
