龍/ryuu/dragonPosted by e. (New York, NY, United States) on 30 April 2008 in Lifestyle & Culture and Portfolio. Last bit on Japanese prayer ritual. When you get to the shrine, clap twice before praying. The first clap is to summon the gods. The second clap is to summon your ancestors. Xu Fu was a court sorcerer in China during the Qin Dynasty who was tasked with finding the elixir of immortality. Eventually, he left to find it, and never came back. It was eventually revealed that he traveled to Japan, where he supposedly found the elixir. This dragon is from the well at the the Xu Fu shrine/tomb in Shingu. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- There are only two ways to live your life. One is as though nothing is a miracle. The other is as though everything is a miracle. - Albert Einstein Hope is a good thing, maybe the best of things, and no good thing ever dies. - Shawshank Redemption

The detail on it's face is great, then it dims as it goes back along the dragon, where the detail perhaps isn't as important. But these dragons are great! And I enjoy your history lesson to go with it. :) 30 Apr 2008 4:45pm Illuci from Hurdegaryp, NetherlandsWonderful dragon, you'd better clap, or else... 30 Apr 2008 5:25pm Rob from Velveetaville, United StatesGreat compositions e. and your body of work reminds me to have fun when capturing images.
