Last bit on Japanese prayer ritual. When you get to the shrine, clap twice before praying. The first clap is to summon the gods. The second clap is to summon your ancestors.
Xu Fu was a court sorcerer in China during the Qin Dynasty who was tasked with finding the elixir of immortality. Eventually, he left to find it, and never came back. It was eventually revealed that he traveled to Japan, where he supposedly found the elixir.
This dragon is from the well at the the Xu Fu shrine/tomb in Shingu.

We walk through our lives so focused on our daily tasks and griefs. It's important to realize that there is always hope, because without fail, there will always be a touch of color - in a hazy shade of winter.

That's an intersting light being cast on the dragon. The detail on it's face is great, then it dims as it goes back along the dragon, where the detail perhaps isn't as important. But these dragons are great! And I enjoy your history lesson to go with it. :)
