One of the fortune telling options in temples is the custom of drawing fortunes. Depending on what you draw, you are handed a piece of paper saying how your fortune will be in the coming year. If you get a bad fortune, custom says that if you tie it on a branch or a wire like this, it will ward off the bad fortune.
