備長炭/binchō-zumi/charcoal

We stopped by a charcoal museum in Minabe (or Minabegawa). They had the entire history of what charcoal had ever been made into, including these chimes. I tried eating charcoal for the first time ever. It was a rather strange experience.

Great focus - and you tried eating charcoal? I suppose its not harmful if they let you. for some reason i thought it was bad for you?

@Rabbit: Well, it's actually supposed to be good for you they said. They candied it. It was weird. Charcoal is actually also used in the States, but for a different purpose. They force people who have OD'ed to consume it so they throw up the drugs. So I guess it can't be all that bad for you right...? Maybe it's a specific type of charcoal.
