face of the capitolPosted by e. (New York, NY, United States) on 2 November 2007 in Documentary & Street. On Wednesday, October 17, the 14th Dalai Lama was awarded the Congressional Gold Medal in honor of his efforts for peace, nonviolence, and universal acceptance. The next few photos will be of that event. Go here to start at the beginning. Thanks for waiting everyone, now presenting the Dalai Lama! As I explained in the post of Richard Gere, the platform where he actually spoke was very far away from the public seating area for security reasons, so this is him on the large screen. It was an unbearably hot day, so when he stepped up to the podium to speak, he opened his mouth to start, stopped, and went back to where he was sitting where he appeared to be looking for something. Then a Secret Service guy handed this red thing to him, and when he walked back, he good naturedly put it on. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- There are only two ways to live your life. I love the composition of this shot with the capital building in the background and the flag flying. What an awesome moment in time for you! 2 Nov 2007 10:54am Viewfinder from Bradenton, United StatesImpressive composition. This one should be in TIME or NEWSWEEK. The red sun visor is such a cool addition to the Dalai Lama's wardrobe. 2 Nov 2007 11:22am Illuci from Netherlands, NetherlandsThis is an unique shot of historical value! The White House remains impressive, no matter how often I saw its picture (I never saw it in reality). It's more a palace than a house. And with the Dalai Lama on a screen before it, it may become symbol of a really free world without prejudice, war or oppression. But there's a lot to do before this will be achieved. The Dalai Lama has about the Pope's charisma, in any case more than the current Chinese leaders might dream of, that's why they despise him so much. 2 Nov 2007 11:32am Lorraine from Gatineau, CanadaYou've given us so much with these photos and texts, thank you m'dear :) 2 Nov 2007 1:31pm Me 2 from Pixel City, United StatesI could look at the dome of the capital all day long !! great shot , nice framing and thank you for being a constant encourager of my shots , it is very appreciated !!
