On Wednesday, October 17, the 14th Dalai Lama was awarded the Congressional Gold Medal in honor of his efforts for peace, nonviolence, and universal acceptance. The next few photos will be of that event. Go here to start at the beginning.
Many monks turned out for the event to celebrate and honor His Holiness. The Tibetan monks were allowed inside the Capitol to actually attend the awarding, but many monks, such as these, were outside, waiting for a glimpse of their revered figure.

We walk through our lives so focused on our daily tasks and griefs. It's important to realize that there is always hope, because without fail, there will always be a touch of color - in a hazy shade of winter.

I was just thinking.. do the people gathered there get to see the Dalai Lama? I hope to see more of this series..

@Out Of Focus: We all got to see him, but only the people really involved with the Tibetan movement or the performers got to go see him up close. It was mostly for security reasons, since there were other important figures there as well.
I love crowd pictures.

The photo has captured an interplay between the two monks very well, I wonder what they are both thinking.

As great a picture as the previous one, because it symbolizes the way our bodies have to be kept upright as vehicles of our souls.

I never think of monks getting older, i think this is a touching capture to show us we all get older even monks and that we can all take little steps toward things we would like to do.
