@Richard Irwin: Yeah, it certainly will be very sad when it finally falls. It's rather old tree, from what I've been told of it.

Awwww, poor tree indeed!! I'm wondering whether it's a lightning strike that did this actually! Whatever the cause, my heart goes out to the tree. Such a richness of texture even at this, its fading hour, does provoke thought about the amazing scenes of life it has so likely witnessesed in its many years of life preceding this sad event. Great work, e.!

what a sad sight. I read somewhere that to kill a tree all you have to do is strip off its bark. Thanks for taking the picture.
